Not In My Church is an excellent documentary about domestic abuse.
It has personal stories from survivors, perpetrators, clergy and pastoral carers.
Topics covered include:
- why it is so difficult to address the issue
- how perpetrators think and act
- how victims respond to abuse
- how there can be hope for perpetrator reform
- how churches have sometimes helped
- how churches have sometimes been been secondary abusers, by not taking the victim's side and by spiritually abusing the victim
The documentary itself cannot be put online. This is to protect the safety of people who appeared in the documentary. When it was made, the interviewees signed contracts which only allowed the documentary to be made available as a hard copy disc; these contracts cannot be re-written as it is no longer possible to get in touch all those people. The manufacturers of the documentary have a duty of care to honour their contracts with the interviewees.
